My Blueprint Co.

You’ve been fixing pipes in Sarasota for 20-plus years. You know every neighborhood, every slab foundation, every quirky water pressure issue that comes with old Siesta Key construction. Your work is good. Your reputation is solid. Word-of-mouth has kept you busy.

And yet, the phone isn’t ringing like it used to.

Here’s what’s actually happening: a plumber with five years of experience — who may or may not do work as good as yours — is showing up at the top of Google Maps every time someone in your service area searches “plumber near me.” They’re getting the call. You’re not even in the picture.

This isn’t about skill. It’s about visibility. And visibility on Google is 100% fixable.

Plumbing Is One of the Most Searched Local Services. Period.

People don’t Google a plumber when things are going well. They Google one when water is spraying out of a wall. That means the searches are urgent, conversion intent is sky-high, and whoever shows up first wins.

According to industry data, “plumber near me” mobile searches have grown nearly 300% in recent years. And 76% of people who search for a local service on their phone call or visit within 24 hours. You’re not competing for browsers — you’re competing for buyers who are already pulling out their credit card.

If you’re not in the Google Maps 3-pack for Sarasota, you’re invisible to most of them.

What the Google Maps 3-Pack Actually Is

When someone searches “plumber Sarasota” or “emergency plumber near me,” Google shows a map with three businesses highlighted before any website results. That’s the 3-pack. It gets the majority of clicks. The businesses below it — and every result on page 2 — get scraps.

Three spots. Dozens of plumbers in Sarasota. This is the fight.

The good news: most of your competitors are ignoring basic optimization. That means a focused effort right now can move you up fast.

Step 1: Your Google Business Profile Is Your Most Important Asset

Your Google Business Profile (GBP) — formerly Google My Business — is what drives Maps rankings. And most plumbers in Sarasota either haven’t claimed theirs, haven’t filled it out completely, or set it up once and forgot about it.

Here’s what a fully optimized GBP looks like:

  • Complete every field. Business name, address, phone, website, hours, service area. If it’s blank, you’re leaving ranking signals on the table.
  • Choose the right primary category. “Plumber” is your primary. You can add secondary categories like “Drainage service” or “Water heater installation service.”
  • Write a keyword-rich business description. Mention Sarasota, your services, and what makes you different. Keep it natural — Google reads this.
  • Add services individually. Google lets you list specific services (drain cleaning, leak repair, water heater replacement, etc.). Fill these out. Every service you list is another way for customers to find you.
  • Upload photos — real ones. Trucks, job sites, your team, before/afters. Businesses with photos get 42% more requests for directions and 35% more clicks to their website. Blank profiles look abandoned.
  • Post updates regularly. GBP has a posts feature. Most plumbers never use it. A post once or twice a month signals activity to Google and keeps your profile fresh.

  • Step 2: Reviews Are a Ranking Factor — Not Just Social Proof

Google uses review quantity, recency, and rating as ranking signals. This means a competitor with 80 reviews at 4.6 stars will typically outrank a competitor with 15 reviews at 5.0 stars.

Most established plumbers in Sarasota have great reputations — they just never ask for the review. That’s a fixable problem.

    A simple system that works:

    1. After every job, send a text to the customer with your Google review link.

    2. Make the ask personal: “If we did a good job today, it would mean a lot if you left us a quick Google review.”

    3. Respond to every review — good and bad. Google notices engagement. Customers notice you care.

Aim for at least 2-3 new reviews per month. Consistency beats a review blitz you do once and forget.

Step 3: Citations — Your Business Listed Everywhere That Matters

A citation is any mention of your business name, address, and phone number (NAP) across the web — Yelp, Angi, HomeAdvisor, BBB, local Sarasota directories, etc.

Google cross-references these listings to verify you’re a real, legitimate business. Inconsistent information (different phone numbers, old addresses, wrong suite numbers) actively hurts your rankings.

    What to do:

  • Claim and complete your listings on Yelp, Angi, HomeAdvisor, BBB, and the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce
  • Make sure your NAP is identical everywhere — including how you abbreviate “Street” vs. “St.”
  • Remove or fix any duplicate listings
  • This sounds tedious because it is. But it’s a one-time cleanup that pays off for years.

Step 4: Your Website Needs to Load Fast on a Phone

Over 60% of local service searches happen on mobile. If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load, most people are gone before they even see your phone number.

Use Google’s free PageSpeed Insights tool (pagespeed.web.dev) to check your site. Anything below 50 on mobile is a problem. Common fixes: compress your images, use a faster hosting provider, and remove plugins or scripts you don’t need.

Your website also needs to clearly show:

  • Your phone number at the top of every page (clickable on mobile)
  • Your service area (mention Sarasota and surrounding neighborhoods)
  • What you do and who you serve — fast. Don’t make anyone hunt.

  • The Real Cost of Doing Nothing

A plumber getting 5 calls a day from Google Maps at an average ticket of $350 is generating over $600,000 a year in revenue from that one channel. If you’re not in the 3-pack, someone else is.

You’ve already put in the 20 years. The experience is there. The infrastructure is there. The only thing missing is showing up when someone in Sarasota needs a plumber right now.

    That’s a solvable problem.
